The state of Alaska does carry certain public records in a central office. It can be searched at the Bureau of Vital Statistics. These records do not become truly "public" in the state right away. In this aspect you may be better off with a search service. According to the Bureau, "births become public records 100 years after the event; deaths, marriages, and divorces become public records 50 years after the event".
Generally, a search can get even more targeted (and may even start there) by referencing the county within the state. Such is not so with Alaska. Instead, it is made up of boroughs rather than counties. They, like counties, keep such records. Alaska is comprised of 18 boroughs, which do not cover the state entirely. Therefore the City of Anchorage itself is located within the Municipality of Anchorage. Eagle River, Girdwood, Chugiak, and Eklutna are also included in the "consolidated city-borough under state law".
Public records are kept in the Municipality's offices. If you are trying to find birth, marriage, death, criminal, or property tax records for someone in Anchorage, visit the Municipality of Anchorage website. You can also search randomly through a search engine, but this can be very time consuming and comes with a level of risk. For example there is no guarantee that the results which were deemed relevant to your search criteria are safe to peruse. Also these sites are able to request a voluntary entry of your email and first/last name prior to continuing with the search. In given in to this seemingly harmless demand, a sites security is often overlooked. This practice could end in spammed email inboxes or even email account hijacking.
